Personal firewalls and the demo downloads

The Banxia web site is generally quite open to all - we do not require that you provide personal information to access the demonstrations or most other files. However, we do operate a certain level of "security" to ensure that our web site cannot be used by other people for sending spam email. Unfortunately, this can sometimes clash with the default settings of some personal firewall software. Our web forms require that the server that they are coming from is a Banxia server so that they cannot be abused by other sites. To know this is correct the site uses the "referrer" field, and this is being stopped by some personal firewalls.

If you are told that you have a personal firewall, and cannot access the downloads, simply enable the referrer information for our site, or temporarily disable the personal firewall privacy option temporarily. Details on how to do this for Norton Personal firewall v4 are below. For other software, please consult the online help.

Norton Personal Firewall v4 - enabling our site the quick and easy way

In the main Norton Personal Firewall configuration dialog click the Privacy control option, and then the Custom Level button

The Custom level button produces the privacy settings dialog, and you simply click to remove the check next to "Enable Browser Privacy". Click OK to save the setting, and then you can retry the web form on our site.

Once you have finished on the Banxia site, you can return to this dialog to re-enable the browser privacy if you wish.

Just our site - the advanced way

The above option is quick and easy, but affects all sites. If you wish to configure Norton Personal Firewall 4 to allow just our site to enable referrer information, then this is how you can do it. On the main control page, click the Options button at the top.

The Options dialog has a button at the bottom called Advanced Options which you should click.

In the Advanced Options dialog, click the Add Site button, which produces this dialog:

Enter the www.banxia.com site name, and then click OK. You then need to click the "Use these rules for www.banxia.com" option, and then set the options as below. The cookies option enables our web shop, and the referer option permits the web forms for the free downloads.

Click OK to save these, and OK again to close the advanced options dialog. You can now safely use our web forms, and do not need to adjust anything later to restore security for other sites.
