Frontier Analyst® FAQs - Technical

Can you explain the report editor further please?

The report designer is a complex part of the Frontier Analyst® software, and allows you to design complex reports using the results information. We recommend that you start with one of the sample reports, and then modify it to suit your requirements.

The Plus Pack manuals are on the CD-ROM in Adobe Acrobat format and the Plus Pack 1 manual provides an introduction to how the report generator works. However the report generator is a very complex tool and will take some learning. We have also included on the CD-ROM an application and documentation for the reporting tool. This is in the "LearnReport" directory on the CD-ROM, and is installed using the LearnRB.exe application. The learning system is totally separate from Frontier Analyst®, but will guide you through the concepts and facilities available.

Setting up the install code for multiple users

For installations where you have purchased a license for many users, there is a facility to help the users enter the install code automatically. This saves each user from typing the install code. To do this, create a file called autoreg.ini in the same directory as the Frontier3.exe. This file should contain the following text:

[Registration]
Name=
Company=
Serial=

Each item should have the values from your license sheet.

This file can be used in a one-off manner, where it is renamed autoreg.old after use, or if you make the file read-only it will be used for all users.

If you find that this is not working, check that the autoreg.ini file is actually not autoreg.ini.txt with the extension hidden (if you do not understand this, ask the system administrator).

The installer stops at 67% installed

This problem occurs when the installer program is trying to read the second file (with the extension ".W02") and it is either not there at all, or it is corrupt (faulty). If you are installing from a downloaded file, make sure that the .W02 file is in the same directory as the .EXE, and has the same base name (SETUP.EXE and SETUP.W02 for example). If the file is there, then the .W02 file is probably faulty, having been corrupted while downloading. This is particularly common with Netscape. Download again using an alternate link if our pages have one, or use another browser or FTP application.

If you still keep having trouble, please email info@banxia.com and we will arrange for a disk set for you.

Installer reports "corrupt installation detected"?

There are two known reasons for "Corrupt Installation Detected" when installing our products.

1. You have not downloaded the file completely or it has been damaged in some way. To fix that, get a fresh copy by downloading again.

2. Your system has a write-protected Windows directory. This is quite common on systems connected to a corporate or university network and some systems running Windows NT.

* If you frequently get this error message when trying to install programs on the system, then this is probably the reason. Many software companies use the same installation system as us so you
would see the problem on their products too.

* If you install a lot of software and have never seen this error before, please consider that point #1 above may apply.

How to check if #2 is the problem

  • Open a word processor and write a short document
  • Do File and then Save As
  • When prompted for a save location, find the c:\windows folder
  • Try to save the file as c:\windows\only a test
  • If your system gives an error, that confirms the problem

(Note, the exact location of your Windows folder may vary)

What to d: Modify the permissions for the Windows directory on an NT computer for the Everyone group so it is not "Read Only (IE, not RX status). You may need help from your systems administrator to do that.

Importing data says "A variable named '' already exists"

This message occurs because the text for the variable headings is more than 255 characters in total. You will typically have headings such as "Number of incidents per '000" or similar. Simply edit the heading titles to use abbreviations (for example "Incidents/k" and try again. While this is a slight inconvenience, it does mean that the data labels will take less space on screen, leaving more room for the results information. The limitation was removed in version 3.
